Hi all,

1990 Evinrude 90 hp.
Powerhead rebuilt, VRO disabled, running premix.
I ran double oil for the first 10 hours, varying speed etc. and it runs great. I now have a total of 26 hours on it, and it continues to run well. The only additive I've put in the gas/oil mix is Star Tron to help with the ethanol issue. I'm wondering when I should do a decarb, or should I add a small amount of Seafoam to each tank of gas to help keep it clean?
Thanks,
John

I have a '87 70hp Johnson that i did a de-carb on after 30 hrs of rebuild (compression ck showed it was due) I pretty much always add a little Sea Foam to every tank - figure it can't hurt

Well, I have a Chrysler 140 that I rebuilt about five years ago and have been using on my current boat for about three seasons. Just farting around, I removed the bypass covers. After about 100-150 hours, the rings are still free and show no sign of carbon, no gooy oil deposits or varnish, and compression is 155 on all cylinders. I Never use anything but regular 87 octane pump gas (10% ethanol) and TCW 3 from Wal Mart. Works for me. Why should I even bother with snake oils in my engine?

I can help remedy that problem for you. :D:D

Come on out and troll with us in December. Troll at idle 1000-1100 RPM, 8-10 hours a day, 37-40 degree water temps.

Guarantee you?ll have WalMart goo running out your exhaust ports at the end of the day. Running a synthetic or semi-synthetic oil really makes a big difference under those conditions.

Never have decarbed--any of my engines! BUT: I will admit, my trolling is usually for about an hour at a time then the engine is run at cruise speeds for a while. Must admit is is easier on the engine. Guilty of tunnel vision. LOL
