I have a 1997 johnson 200 looper that I just rebuilt and I discovered something. I have run it about 6 hours since the rebuild and today replaced a faulty powerpack (that would not allow it to start). I discovered that I had the #2 cylinder and #4 cylinder wires from the powerpack reversed. In other words the #2 powerpack wire was attached the #4 coil and the #4 powerpack wire was attached to the #2 coil. It did run ok with these wires reversed but I thought it seemed slightly underpowered, but it did not run terrible as one would have expected. I did notice that at about 3000 rpms it did run rougher. It did heavily consume fuel. Anyway I put the new power pack on and got the wires correctly fitted and it fired right up and idled much more smoothly than before.
My question is: Could my running it like this for about 6 hours have done something bad inside the crankcase? It runs good now, but I worry I did something to the bearings or pistons. Any insight will save me hours maybe even days of worrying. Thanks!!
