I'm trying to get things ready for the removal of my 1988 Force 50hp outboard and I've alreadt hit a snag. I can't get the damn steering arm/cable all the way out of the engine! I loosened the cable mounting nut all the way and also the steering arm from the engine linkage and it pulls right out- but it stops about an inch or so from coming out all the way. The cable itself hits the side of the splashwell area and there just isn't anymore room. Help!! I also think I bent the cable a bit where the larger diameter piece goes over the smaller diameter piece.

On my 125 I couldn't get the cable out until I lifted the motor off the transom.

If you don't want to removeit with the engine off the transom, then loosen the engine and slide it all the wat to the port side of the transom. Also be sure to turn the steering wheel all the way to the left so the cable will be fully retracted.
