I'm putting in my Sierra Impeller pump (complete Kit) and I'm unsure how tight to tighten to nuts on the pump? My SELOC manual says 25 ft lbs for the 7/16 nuts and 35 ft lbs for the 1/2 nut. I started tightening, tightening and my wrench didn't pop. The nuts are tight with a hand wrench, can someone guide me on this? Don't want it to tight as read that will cause trouble and I don't want it too loose. I just don't want to crack the plastic housing.

Thanks for the time gents.

Re: How tight do you go?

at the very least, get your info here. from an oem s/m. if ya tell us what ya got, someone may be able to provide ya with a pdf link to what ya need.
says 25 ft lbs for the 7/16 nuts and 35 ft lbs for the 1/2 nut
from that statement, i'm guessing a alpha1 type drive.
i'll be them specs are close if ya read it in. lbs. not ft. lbs. as in 25 in lbs. and 35 in lbs... for my mc-1 (pre alpha1 if ya want) there are three specs, 15,30 and 35 in lbs. depending on which bolt or nut i am tightening.
if ya got something other than a mercruiser, use whatever oem book covers your drive for service and specs.

Here is what it says in service manual #6 for your drive.
Your Seloc is wrong about everything if it says 25 and 35 ft lbs., it's 60 to 80 INCH LBS.
25 ft lbs, will damage/distort the plastic housing and it would suck air.

EDIT: Adding links to manuals, site wouldn't come up earlier.

Wow! Careful, or you WILL break something! My OEM manual (for my alpha 1) says nuts torqued to 60-80 INCH pounds (NOT ft pounds!), and the screw is 30 - 40 INCH pounds. I have heard nothing good about SELOC manuals, Except they are good for propping up the sofa when a leg breaks off. Just sayin. I got my OEM manual from a link on here.
(There we go again, Don! Posting at the same time!.... Most of what I have learned has been from you and this forum, anyways! Thanks!!!!)

Re: How tight do you go?

Thanks for the help everyone. Sorry, my signature din't work, I have a Alpha One Gen 1 mounted to a 470. I don't have a inch metered torque wrench, I'll have to get ahold of one.
