How tight should throttle cam be? I removed the carb on my 1988 50hp outboard for a rebuild and to do so I needed to remove the throttle cam and failed to notice how tightly it was mounted. Should it be tightned all the way down, or left a little loose?

Since the throttle cam is held between two plastic grommets and since the grommets have a land on them that the hole in the cam rides on, you need to snug the nyloc nut down until there is no side to side play in the cam. Too tight and you will squeeze the cam between the plastic and add resistance to the linkage, possibly binding it. If you do not have a self locking nut on the stud, replace the existing nut with a self locker. originally there was no washer under the nut but I like to add one to my engines--not necessary, just personal preference.
