How to Add Icon (emoticon) in Text

How do I add an icon to my text, like one of those fancy smiley faces that I see in others' posts? Instead of the old standby symbol

I tried in the past and the icon was displayed on the main forum page beside the title of my thread but I'd like it right here in the text. Thanks.

When you reply to a post at the righthand bottom of the text window is a button labeled "Go Advanced" Select it and the smiley icons will show up on the rightside of the screen.
