How to check and/or replace PTT fuse?

Hi,

Fishing season has started early here in Missouri
and I am anxious to get out on the water.
My 1991 3 cyl 70 h Evinrude's ptt will lift but
not go down. For various reasons, I am pretty
sure it is electrical (owing to an earlier mess
too complicated to detail). Is there a fuse that
can blow for just the down part of the PTT. That
would seem to be it, if there is? But where are
the fuses? I looked at the green and blue wires
disappear into the engine, and I am not wanting
to just tear into it, without knowing what is
there. That is what I used to do,and I managed to
end up tearing up as much as I fixed when I was young. I looked here for fuses but could not find
any listed in the parts. (I figured if I had one
I might be able to check them). (I am trying not
to break down and by a manual, as I have never had much luck with them).

Thanks!

Welcome to the forum budabell,

There is a lead and fuse assy. and a fuse, part #'s 108 & 106 respectively in the parts diagram.

You can go here to BRP's site and click on accessories the PTT for your motor can be found there.

http://epc.brp.com/default.aspx?brands=ej&lang=E

Another site with the same info is iShopMarine.com, click on O. B. Accessories then the year.

I would think though that if that fuse was bad the motor wouldn't any power to go up or down. Probably going to be something else going on.

Good Luck :)

If you get the original manual (OMC) I think you'll be pleased with it .Very exact.

If you had a bad fuse, amoung other things, the motor would not go up or down.Problem might be the tilt relays.Square boxes mounted together, maybe on the rear of the engine.Try swapping them and see if you have down and no up. Both solenoids function in both directions. One supplies + and one supplies -,then viseversa.

DHP

These are the relays you are looking for. They're on the starboard side of the engine. Does it make any noise like it's trying to go down or is it silent when you hit the button?

Hi,
Thanks to everyone for the help.

Yes, I will probably break down and get
a manual when I have to.

The down button gets no response at all.
There was a problem earlier, and I believe
now it must have burned out one of the tilt
relays. I will switch them and see. Do they
just pull straight out?

Thanks to all! This was a big help.
The pictures are fantastic.
