Hi All -

Is there way to do a quick check without removing outdrive on 5.7 cobra to see if I have a broken flapper down in the exhaust system ? If not is there step by step proceedure here on how to remove the OD ? I searched the forum but couldn't find one. I was thinking if I removed the prop and ran something back up through the exhaust outlet it might give me a clue.

I suspect this becuase I am having power loss issues under load and recently changed one of the rubber riser coupling gaskets and noticed there was no flapper present. I e-mailed the PO to ask him but he hasn't responded :-(

Thanks,

Re: How to check for broken exhaust flap ?

well 1st have to pull exhaust boots to check flappers at top part of Y tube if there or not. then raise the out drive all way up get under and with a strong light look in the rubber boot that has the slits from the hull to to prop. more n likely they will be black melted mess into the exhaust to prop. well then get a screw driver and good locking needle nose pliars and fish them out. dont see any reason to pull off the out drive. did that last year on my boat, and put in new flappers etc
