How to check hours on 2000 Merc 225 EFI Salt

I am considering buying a used boat with a 2000 Mercury 225 EFI Saltwater engine. The boat was used by a fishing guide. I wanted to see if there is a way to find out the hours of use on the engine. I believe the Optimax has a computer on board that can reveal the number of hours. Does anyone know whether the 225 EFI in 2000 has that capability?<br /><br />Thanks,

Sure it does. take it to a shop that has a DDT, plug it in and can read not only hours but what engine rpm its been run at. And any stored codes, tons of info.
