Re: How to check timing on a 1987-1988 force 125hp

Have you done anything to the motor???
Changing the trigger/stator??
Most times, unless you have messed with the arm/link the timing won't change.

Timing marks, top of carb set,3 marks on the flywheel.
There is a single hash mark to the right. This is for finding TDC with a timing tool.
3 marks on wheel starting from the left 32/30/28

Key on.
Plugs out.
Plug leads grounded.
Install timing light on top plug.
Full throttle.(hold it there so it won't come back on it's own)
Someone at the key or a jumper box/lead.
Turn motor over and point the light at the timing mark.
If the timing needs to be at 32 then it should be set at 30.
If it needs to be adjusted.Under the flywheel is a connector that you break the locknut loose and turn the shaft in or out.
Make sure it jets locked down again.
Hope this helps.

Per OEM manual. 32* BTDC @ WOT on 85hp and 125hp "84 thru "88

ANYONE who want's to add to this?? Send the additions to me and I'll add them to the post.
Hope it's right.
Anyone know what the timing specs are for the 85/90/125/120/150???J
