I have read a few posts that stated their engine blew a piston or rings due to restricted water flow through one of the upper cylinders.

Is their any way to check that proper flow is going around every cylinder?

Steve

1985 Johnson 235 v-6

Keep your maintenance up on your cooling system keep close eye on your water pressure guage if you have one on your boat and use thermomelt or an electronic or infrared thermometer to check for hot spots on your engine.

Steve - There is no way that I know if to be assured that cooling water is going through every water passage. You can get a sense of things by periodically pulling your plugs and examining them carefully. All plugs should look pretty much the same. If not that means that something is happening differently in the cyl where the plugs look different. The cyl may be hotter than the adjacent ones (hence water flow question). The difference may also be due to something that is going on on the fuel side so you don't know for sure. You might get some indication when running the motor with muffs with the cowl off. Put you finger on the head by each cyl. They should feel approximately the same.

Supermans got the ticket with the Thermomelt Stiks and water pressure gauge. Just use the hi-temp stick to put a mark on each head, cylinder, etc. and keep an eye on them and the water pressure gauge. If a problem starts to develop, you'll see it. If something goes south all of a sudden, you probably couldn't stop it anyway.

c/6

Hooty
