Hi there,
I just got me a freshly rebuilt motor thats oil injected. I was wondering what I can do to get rid of the oil injection. Since my last motor burned up due to failure of the oil pump, I just dont trust em no more. So if one of you guys out there could give me some advice as to how to disconnect the oil injector, that would be great and give me piece of mind.

Thanks, Markus

Re: How to disable oil injection on mariner

Hi, we are almost neighbors, I'm from Defuniak Springs. I have a Mercury 200 EFI and I disabled the oil injection but left all the injection components in place. Taking the pump off can be risky depending on what engine you have. I removed the oil pump output hose and re-routed it into the top of the oil tank on the motor (where the line from the large remote tank was). This way, oil is simply pulled from the bottom of the small oil tank, through the oil pump and back into the top of the small oil tank (instead of injecting into the fuel system). This keeps the oil pump oiled. The large remote tank receives pressure from the engine, which in turn feeds oil into the small tank on the engine. I plugged this pressure port on the engine and disconnected the lines (to keep the remote tank from pressurizing). You will also have to plug the point in the fuel system where the oil output hose previously went (since you re-routed the oil line to the top of the oil tank). Once you do this, start premixing 50:1. The benifits to this method are that you leave all your components in place for hook up if you ever sell the motor or boat. Many people insist on having oil injection and it could hurt your resale value. You won't have to disable your warning system either. Also, it prevents any problems from gears or shafts coming lose in the engine if you try to remove the oil pump. Last but not least, this method will take 20 minutes to complete and require only a length of 3/16 I.D. fuel line (for re-routing the oil hose)and some hose clamps. It works fine on my boat. Keep in mind there could be some differences especially if your motor is carburated. yates@mail.cyou.com

Why disable the oil injection system and loose all the conveniences that you enjoy? Marine Solutions has a bolt-on electronic oil injection unit that is very reliable and low cost. You can call them at 262-524-0804

Thanks for all the help guys, I really appreciate it.
Dixieland, that was a great idea you had about pumping the oil right back in the reservoir. I think thats what Im going to do.
Again, thanks a lot.
