I have a '72 9.8hp mercury. There was no oil in the lower end and it feels rough when I turn it over by hand. My questions are:
-behind the prop, under the plastic threaded piece is another metal piece
that looks to be threaded in, Do I need to remove the shaft or anything
first to unthread it? (it has three slots for a special tool)
-I can't get the bottom of the water pump off. I tried cleaning up the shaft
and it doesn't slide up, am I missing something?
I would like to inspect the gears and make sure everything is ok. I do work in a small engine shop so I would like to do this myself and not take it to a
dealer, (an not waste too much of my bosses time haha)
