I'm trying to test and see if my VRO oil pump will give me a no oil alarm. I ran my engine on oil/fuel mix and did not hook up the oil (nothing in the sight glass). It was only in my driveway on muffs. After about 1 minute, I still didn't get a no oil alarm. When I turn the key on though, I get the telltale 1/2 second alarm to let me know that the alarm works. I was wondering if my VRO isn't sending the correct signal, or if it is my wiring from the VRO to the alarm? Is there a way to test the continuity of the VRO with a multimeter and see if it is working? I notieced that the VRO gets an input from a gray wire (RPMs I think). Can I just put a dumby voltage on this wire instead of having my engine running?

First make sure that your warning horn does work correctly.

disconnect the oil line and plug it. Run the motor on a 50:1 mixed fuel above 2000 rpm. It may take several minutes to use up the residual oil inside the pump before the alarm triggers.

After the alarm sounds, hook up the oil line, make sure it is full, and then keep running to the alarm turns off. That tests the priming action of the oil pump.
