I have an older rowboat pre 1972 id guess since theres no h i d
Bascially its 12' by 5' (aluminum rowboat) very stable. Any ideas on max hp engine i can place?

Also the seam in the back was split (dropped a mooring on it) whoops
The welder said he wouldnt do it because sometimes rowboats are caulked at the seams and he didnt want to mess up the boat is that true?

Yes that is absolutely true and I found out the hard way trying to weld one.

Without pics hard to say what you need to do to fix it.

As to HP, that is a pretty small boat so probably no more than 15 and that should move it out pretty good and make sure the transom is in good shape.

I have an older 12' mirrocraft. Max HP is 15. Also, as far as the crack goes, I have been working on my aluminum. I ordered the aluminum repair sticks from Cabella's. You heat the area with a torch then dab on the stick. It has worked well on my boat. I even sealed some of the seams by heating the stick and dabbing it on the seams.

thanks
i will post pics tomorrow
the welder took a look at the boat and said he'll do it.
Is there a way to find out the make/model of it through the old registration numbers? There is no HID

If this boat was designed as a rowboat the transom may not be strong enough for a motor.

I know it has been used with a motor successfully
Theres still the indetations from the motor screw marks
It has a motor plate anyway,
What is better to use to fix leaky rivets,
The Cabellas thing where you weld if with a propane torch or Marine 5200 caulk

That "weld stick" is not that good. You can do more damage if you overheat the aluminum. The proper way to repair leaks in aluminum boats is first to re-buck the rivets if so equipped and use gluvit epoxy by marine tex which was designed for the job.

Read the Restoration Section and you will find experianced advice and get some great ideas.

The welder charged me $25 said it would have been cheaper if it werent for all of the old caulk. heh
