I just bought a 78 115hp seahorse. Good even compression 95 to 100. I just got the tilt working, there was a little water mixed in with the fluid so I flushed and filled it and it works well.
I want to test for spark but I wanted to change the lower unit oil first. I read in the faqs that you fill from the lower drain hole??? Any tips for accomplishing that? Also, what type and weight oil to use? So far so good, the lower unit oil had no water or metal in it.....Thanks again... BTW, Manual is on the way EDIT: What keeps the drain screw from vibrating out???

Re: How to fill the lower unit.

first for a big motor like that you should get a gallon/4 litre jug. buy a pump with it . your dealer will know what weight to use for that motor. i use 90 in all mine. with the motor in the down position, remove the bootn plug.the other is the vent. when you take the plug out it might drip a little before you can get the pump hose in to it.thats normal. but don't take too much time. once the pump hose is in, loosen the vent plug most of the way but not out( there is a groove in the vent plug that allows the air to get out. pump the hand plunger slowly until oil comes out the vent. close off the vent. take out the pump hose and quickly replace the fill plug.done.
