What is the correct way to check the tilt /trim fluid level? Also will this remove the air from the lines? 1976 115 hp, model 1150 Mercury.

Eric

Re: How to fill tilt/trim

There should be a stainless slotted serew close top of the pump that is the fill screw. Just fill and run up and down 4-5 times to remove air.
Tim

sometimes the fill screw is dirty or has been changed with a black replacement screw and this can make it hard to locate, just look for the screw that is differant than all the rest on the top of the pump unit

Eric, The screw on my '77 is aluminum. It is unpainted to stick out from the resovoir. Also, my T/T unit is not self bleeding. There is a specific procedure for bleeding the up and down sides of the cylinders.

Thanks Chris, I now have a manual that addresses this.

Re: How to fill tilt/trim

Hi everyone,

I have ran into the same trouble with my 1986 60 hp Merc tilt and trim. Could someone please talk me through filling and bleeding the TNT system? I believe I have found the stainless plug, however it looks very small for a fill hole. I'd say it?s no bigger than 3/16". Please advise if I am already on the wrong track...
