hey guys I have a 75 merc 650, 65hp
and Iam just wondering how to get the prop off all I can really see there is a nut, but could be confused, do I just hold the prop and turn the nut with a wrench I would have thought it would have been a nut with a cotter pin?

Re: how to get prop off?

First bend the tabs of the lock nut down with a screwdriver and hammer(this replaces the cotter pin theory).

Then wedge a 2 x 4 or similar between the prop blade and lower unit.

Put a socket on the nut and gently loosen it. Shouldn't take much pressure against the 2 x 4.

The prop should pull right off unless it's corroded and frozen itself to the shaft.

Some props have loose parts in the hub for quick interchanges so watch for loose parts falling out.

If it's stuck, take it to a shop or ask someone else on here as to a removal procedure. Do not bang on it, you could damage the shaft.
