I have a '95 (I think) Johnson 115 HP. the wiring in my boat is a mess and never works. I have a temp sensor that has never worked. I just realized the wires from it are just nicely coiled under the dash. anyone know how to hook this up? I know the power stuff i just don't know if there is even a temp sensor in the engine or if there is where it is.

Do you mean you have a gauge that doesn't work?
If you want to start over with a new gauge and sensor Teleflex makes a kit that works perfect for that engine.
You can either hook it up with included z bracket or rig the braket to the thermostat housing (between the heads on bottom). The sensor works by just touching the metal surface. No drilling or tapping req.
Here is my thread when I did mine. Look at picks at bottom to see detail.

Re: how to hook up temp guage

I have a gauge in my dash. the wires aren't hooked up though. There is a temp alarm that works and there once was a working gauge, so I think the sensor might be in their. I just don't know where to look. Hopefully I won't have to buy anything, but if I have to I will. There is a threaded whole between the cylinders on each side. Is that for a temp sensor? Sorry to sound like I have no idea what i'm talking about, but i don't in this case.

You may be confusing the temp switches (one in each head) with a temp sensor for a dash gauge. The two switches the factory puts in are simple on/off switches. When they sense 212 degrees, they short to ground and sound the overheat horn in the control box. You can't uses these factory switches to drive a temp gauge. Possible you have some other sensor (as toddschubert describes) already installed on the head. Perhaps you could attach a couple of pictures-would be helpful.
