just bought a sea pro renegade, jet boat, looks very much like a seadoo to me, apparently it use to be powered by a force 90hp. it was replaced by a 4 cylinder of which i was told it is a force 120. the boat was a 1994 model. what all has been changed to get this engine in i am unsure of. the problem i have is it punched a hole into the block when a rod broke. i can find NO tags on the engine to identify it. i keep reading of mercury force, force engines, are they the same? i did find an older 1990 force powerhead for sale online, the pictures of certain parts like the coils, the mounting, cdi all look different, then i located a mercury force like a 1996 i think, and it looked like what i have. the 1990 is one to be sold as parts for rebuild, will the block, crank etc work if i use my external parts? is it totally different? what years do i need to locate? are outboard powerheads different than ones for jet boats? and finally for now what options would i have to go to a totally different engine and be able to connect to my lower unit?
sorry for many questions, this is my first jet boat experience, maybe my last. i/o i am ok with, and id probably be fine now if i had the original engine intact to work with. one thing is for sure id like to be able to identify what is actually in the boat now. i have tried casting number i have located on the lower mount, manifold, and even a part number on the two nice blue ignition coils, i cant seem to get any info to help

many thanks to anyone who has knowledge and experience as well as patience to help me thru this

Re: how to identify force engine?

thanks i will take some pics tomorrow and post.

i did however look thru the parts section at boats.net. and iboats. from what i can see my engine has CDM modules where the coils are located. in the parts list it appears they began using them in 1996, so i assume mine must be a 1996 or newer? they definitely dont appear to be normal coils, more square and use the GM style electrical connectors. i think another question i have is there a difference in a force power head and one listed as being a sportjet? i found an carb cover what id call a flame arrestor in a boat way up inside the hull it says mercury sportjet on it, then i notice some call it a mercury/force sportjet. my mind wants to say a force sportjet powerhead is for a jet boat where as a force powerhead is for an outboard?

also anyone reading this that has a lead on parts or a rebuildable engine/powerhead for my situation id be interested in hearing from you.

as i say mine punched a rod thru the lower block so to me its non rebuildable
thanks

Re: how to identify force engine?

Did the rod come through the front where the carbs are or the rear?
You might get lucky and be able to use the Force intake.
You take it apart? You might need more??
