Guys during the process to make my 1960 40hp Johnson run as it should be I took off the flywheel , the armature plate , cleaned everything but I hit a bump under the armature plate is another plate with some markings and a keynotch kind of sign and two 0 punched on the plate now I don t know how to set this plate, the armature plate comes in the top of it, the crapy manual says nothing about this setting can you guys please shed some lite?
Does the keynotch has to align with the flywheel key?
I will attach some pics.
Thank you

the keynotch on the aluminum ring should not make a difference where it is. the position of the screw holes makes it so it can only go on two ways and both ways will work. notice how the screw holes are not spaced 90 degrees from each other. just look at the screws on your armeture plate and try to line them up as best you can, turn it a little to help. when you put the armeture plate on make sure the stop arm thing is on the correct side of the casting boss( I think thats what you would call it) :)

hope this makes sense

Larky is correct. However, you have WAY too much grease on that thing. Just a thin smear is max. Any excess will just get thrown off and foul the points.

Thank you guys you were right, I cleaned everything and apply just a smal amount of grease.
Now can you guys tell me where I can find a 14mm tap, during the process of removing the flywheel the crankshaft bolt developed small crack at the tip and the nut does not fit anymore and I want to rethread, I went to NAPA, all the auto parts store you can think, Home Depot all have up to 12mm no 14mm.

This is the size of the thread at the end of the crankshaft, on whitch the flywheel nut threads on, at least that's what the guy told me at ACE hardware, the nut I took it of with the 19mm socket, I took the nut to the hardware store and the guy tested it on a 14mm screw.
You try to tell me that is not a 14mm?
