Before i replace my outboard I want to fill the compression holes left by the old washers, level it and place a thin stainless plate on the transom. Can anyone recommend a product for this.I figure marine tex would work but that stuff is pricy, maybe a fiberglass resin?

If you can't afford marine tex, why bother? Won't the stainless plate cost more? Even Bondo, which would work, will cost the same.

A 2 oz kit of Marine Tex is only $16. As a "last resort" scenario, if it's the depression of the washer you want to fill, put in another thin stainless steel washer in the depression and put the SS plate on top.

I would leave the original washers inplace and put your stainless plate over them. the washers are already the exact size of the hole and won't sink anymore and would also spread the load and hold up alot better than Marine Tex or bondo or anything like that

How deep are the depressions? What I'm getting at is that it's not normal for those washers to sink more than just a little bit, if at all. If it's a significant depth you have to look at the possibility of rot within the transom. (Ask me how I know  ).

Exactly what I was thinking. I removed my motor last summer to seal up a trim strip. The washers had not even marked the transom left alone left an indent and we're talking a 200Hp outboard.
