How to post a thumbnail or full size pic

I am sure that this has been covered but after searching the forums I didn't locate any specifics on the topic.

How do you post a full screen pic or thumbnail pics. For some reason my pics are allways to large to attach to the thread so I end up converting formats, shrinking etc.

If someone has directions on how to do this or a thread they can recommend on this subject it would be great.
