How to properly clean Carbs? I have a 1975 Johnson 135hp Model# 135ELS75E I think my carbs are cloged. I am not getting any fuel to my spark plugs And getting fuel up to fuel pump thinga ma jig. Even when i squeeze the hell out of the primer ball. (Solid as a rock) but after that not much at all in resiviors. I am afraid of taking the whole carb apart b/c do'nt want to mess with fuel/air mixture screws. Any help is deeply appreciated.

hhmm are you saying that the Carby bowls are dry? that would be a pretty rare condition I would think, and would imply that there is a complete blockage of a fuel line, not just the carby being dirty

A manual will pay for itself many times over. Watch this video for some carb rebuild tips. Gl Chris

If you know enough to diagnose the problem and have found the fuel pump thingamajig, you're technically competent to perform a carb rebuild.

They're dead on simple devices.

Get yourself a manual, read up on the procedure, then ask whatever questions you have here.

welcome to iboats!

to answer your question, only one way to properly clean 'em: remove, disassemble, soak in carb cleaner, blow compressed air through all the orfices. I don't have compressed air so I use aerosol carb cleaner - so far its worked for me. outboard carbs are remarkably simple devices, nothing like automotive - don't be intimitated.

But I'm with noelm...when you say "not much at all in resiviors" you mean fuel isn't getting to the carbs? then you have an obstruction between the primer bulb and the carburetors. Check your filters & fittings. If the primer bulb is more than a couple or four years old, go ahead & replace it, it's pretty cheap & will break eventually anyway. Same with fittings.

Old lines will swell up with some of the crap we have for gas now...might want to start there first
