The thermostat is held up into the housing with an o-ring.

Danny and Bruce I removed the thermostat as I was having over heating issues. I did not see the two bottom bolts on the stat housing till after I removed the fiberglass wall in front of the motor. I replaced the impeller a few days earlier. It was all but destroyed, not sure why when it was replaced 2 seasons earlier but I did not fry the engine. I took the boat out after removing the stat and not replacing it. The boat ran well but heated up to half the gauge approx 175 f and stayed there on WOT. So now I thinking do I have a over heating issue without the stat? hould I leave it out? Is the stat bad or do I have restriction in the cooling system? Guys any ideas.

Did the impeller shred itself? Did you find all the pieces?

I found some peaces but, I dought I found them all. The impeller was pretty much shredded. I did check the hoses from the pump and found a few smaller peaces in the upper hose from the impeller pump housing I seem to have lots of water flow from the impeller to the stat housing as I checked that part of it.
