I see that Johnson recommends using 1/2-13 tap to tap into the cylinder to remove it. Has anyone used this method? I would think this would scar the inside of the cylinder. I have tried using wire hooks and heating the wall without any success.Comments!

I have used the tap method. But I thought it was 1/2-20, but could be wrong--it was forever ago. Even re-used the cylinder after cleaning it up. Have also used similar method by tapping the upper packing washer, just below the cylinder, and re-used that also. Heat will not work because the brass expands more than the surrounding aluminum and it just gets tighter when hot.

I solved the problem by using 1/2 " wood drill bit. I stuck it into the cylinder and gave it a small turn and out it came.
