I'm trying to remove the carbs on my 1978 85hp Johnson V4. I need to remove the electric choke solenoid so it isn't connected to the carb linkages.

Is there a trick? The choke connection to the choke shaft is held in place by a white plastic washer that is kept from slipping off the shaft by by a small white round o-ring?? (or something) that sits in a grove on the choke shaft. How do I get that little o-ring off!!! Without removing that little o-ring or rubber piece I can't get the plastic washer off and cannot get the electric choke solenoid removed. I'm tempted to cut that little white o-ring and replace it with a c-clip...but thought I better ask you guys before I cut anything. Is there a trick?

No tricks at all.------ the plunger comes out of the solenoid.--No need to remove the little 0-ring.

thanks Racer! I thought that bracket was fixed on the solenoid body, but I just went out and it pulled off, allowing the plunger to fall out of the solenoid. So after I remove the two connecting links between the two carbs and the solenoid, I can remove the two carbs separately, Do most people just leave the rest of the linkage associated stuff on the carbs during the rebuild?
