how to remove fuel filter

I have a 1983 Merc 50hp 4cyl. On the left side of the engine there is a
semi transpartent bowl that you can see the fuel in. (fuel filter?) Does it
just spin on (threaded) or what else. I have tried to turn it off but it gets
real hard to turn and I don't want to break it.

I keep having carb problems (like they are getting stopped up) and was told
by a local marine mechanic that the new E85 ethanol is causing a lot of carb
and injector problems. Do I need to install a water type seperator filter?

Yes, it unscrews sometime it take Channellcks to get them loose but it unscrews. Heres a breakdown
