How to remove OMC throttle lever on Ranger

I have a 1989 Ranger 360 V with an OMC throttle lever. The previous owner added a HotFoot throttle pedal that I would like to remove and go back to the standard lever.

It seems that I have almost zero access to the back side of this hidden throttle. The fuse panel and the live well valve controls are in front of the lever, and I can not even begin to get my hand in back of the area. I finally got the lever itself off, and heard a fairly large thud which I suspect was the actual mechanism falling down behind the fiberglass side.

Anyone have some secret to tell me about how this can be done, or maybe knows someone with spaghetti arms that could reach behind to access the rest of the throttle control?

Thanks

Anybody???

I would think a few of you would have had to adjust, or work on this type of throttle control on a Ranger before? It seems to be an impossible feat to me right now, and it looks like I will have to cut a hole into the gunnel to even get this thing attached back on so it will work as before. Help! :blue:

Bueller? Ferris Bueller??

there are so many throttle levers that is kinda hard to tell what you have unless you post a pic or get a diagram from a site like Evinrude Parts & Johnson Outboard Parts at MarineEngine.com

You are absolutely correct. I should have posted the diagram of the control. But the problem is the boat, not the control.

With the help of a few friends, I found the problem. It seems on other similar Rangers, there is a cutout that follows the contour of the seat in the gunnel. My boat has this cut-out also, but only on the port side. I believe the factory forgot to do the starboard side. This completely makes it impossible to get at the throttle control mechanism. I will cut it out and try to post pictures of before and after. Maybe it will help others having the same problem.
