How to remove slack in the sterring wheel?

I have a 1995 Rinker 190 Captiva with the 4.3LX and Alpha 1. There is about an 1/8 of a rotation of play in the steering wheel.

Is there an adjustment to tighten the steering up? Is it under the dash or in the engine compartment?

All help appreciated,
JR

No adjustment for slack.

You need to find the problem.
There is a key-way in the steering wheel that may be worn, and a gear that pulls/pushes the cable.
An adjuster to center the steering wheel mounted to the transom shield.
And a bolt at the out drive arm.
That's about it.

Thanks for the info. One thing I failed to mention, the steering wheel isn't straight when the boat is going straight. Your comment about the adjuster to center the steering wheel jarred my memory.

We're headed to the lake this morning, I'll take a look at these items.

Thanks again!
