How to remove steering tube from 1999 30hp.

I just bought Mercury 1999 30hp oil injection, with rusted steering tube can not slide a steering cable through. thank you.

A lot of PB for several days then a block of wood and a hammer to jar it lose, or heat but that would be a last resort.

Just hamer it out at either end ? after soak it with pb for days.. thank yoou.

Just tap it lightly, the wood is to keep it from spreading it out and deforming the threads, if you can get the nut out to the end of the threads all the better. You may have a hard time finding a new one and may end up reusing the old one.
