how to remove the exhaust cover??

I am trying to remove the exhaust cover on my 68 evinrude 85hp. I need to replace the shifter lever assembly. I removed all the bolts I could find, but it looks like it is attached to the boat itself and the exhaust will not lift out. I can't find anything in the repair manual on it.

firemedic,<br /><br />Not sure what you are describing as the exhaust cover? Is this the cover between the cylinder heads?

Firemedic<br />There should be no need to remove the front half of the lower engine cover. Do you need to get to the lower shaft, the one that goes into the exhaust housing? It has a greese zerk in the end of it. Do you think you need a bushing?

Firemedic<br />Removing the exhaust cover will not get you down to that shaft.
