How to remove the gear bearing cage? Force 85 HP 1987

Well, my gear wont stay engaged on full power.... clutch cog seems to be the problem here. Now I need to remove the gear cage to change that bu I cant get it out.
I dont have the serice manual. If someone can shed some light that would be much appreciated

Look at a parts diagram.

Remove the lower unit, the prop, the anode, 4 bolts that hold the carrier, the carrier, then there are
2 half moon retaining rings.
Then the driveshaft should come out.
You might have to move the shift shaft to release the yoke on the front of the shaft.

But before you do this, make sure the linkage is adjusted right??
Sometime the nuts at the top of the shaft(under the carb) needs adjusting??
