I think maybe mine is fried.
It is still over 1" wide after giving a pump to cold start engine.

Is this difficult to replace- is there a set up required that I can easily screw up after replacement?
Thanks!

In most cases the electric choke last almost forever. Yours might be bad but have you tried to adjust it yet?

But I still wonder if mine is working at all or if I fried it? How can you tell it is working?
- one thrust of throttle lever on a cold engine moves the choke a bit forward but still 80% open. Is this right at all?

Great procedure description thank you.

Easy way to see if its still working but just not adjusted, loosed the 3 screws just slightly. Hold throttle open some and rotate the disc to where the choke plate starts to close. If it does finish adjusting as shown above

AD has you steered straight. Only thing to add is to make sure choke completely opens when it is warm. If you find these adjustments don't work and you do indeed need a new stove I found one on ebay for like $30.
