I just replaced my trim motor (had it rebuilt) on my Evinrude 175 hp outboard (about 16years old). I drained the oil and everything is back in place. I was told to fill the oil with the trim all the way down but I cant get any oil in it and I don?t see any type of storage tank to accommodate oil. My two questions are is it hydraulic oil or regular oil that goes in and how do you put the oil in to fill. I thought that if I fill it up with trim up (chambers full) then when I lift (chambers emptying) then where does the oil pressure go? Can someone help me out, as I don?t want to mess up?

dextron or power steering fluid.

Trim & Tilt

With someone?s help push the up button, and someone help the motor go all the way up. Lock motor in that position, now fill reservoir, replace cap. Unlock and bush button to lower motor. Keep repeating until it does not take fluid. The unit should operate now. Dextron or power steering fluid.

With the motor tilted up and supported by the trail locks, facing the T&T from the rear, the tilt motor will be on one side and the reservoir on the other. The fill plug is a flat slotted screw in the rear of the reservoir, facing you.

You take that screw out and fill the reservoir until the fluid runs out. Then replace the screw, til the motor up and release the locks, then cycle the motor up and down several times. Repeat the process until the reservoir will hold no more fluid.

Hi Guys
Thank you very much for your quick response as it was bang on instructions. The good news is I did save several hundred $$ doing it myself as I had to pull the steering cable and right side of motor mount as the trim motor is of coarse hidden behind. The bad news is I tried replying to thank you that day and my computer crashed seconds before I hit the send button thus wiping out my hundreds saved lol. Anyhow thank you again as it was greatly appreciatted.
