We have an 86 Seaswirl with a 4.3L Inboard, mated to a OMC Cobra Outboard. During our last outing, we hit a sand bar that we didn't see under the water. One blade on the prop got bent and when I went to replace it with a new one, I realized the shaft is also bent.

Is that shaft something I can fix myself or is it better left to the professionals?

Thanks.

Depends on your Mechanical Abilities. It isn't too complex. Hopefully you didn't get the case sprung, or out of round, from the impact. If the Bearing Carrier, refuses to come out of the case, that may have happened, or it might
badly corroded. Get a Factory service manual. Pay particular Attention to making sure the case is properly sealed upon reassembly.

Will need to remove loosen out drive to remove lower unit, disassemble lower unit to remove shaft, depending on damage either replace or take to machine shop and have straightened, install new seal and reassemble. SEI does make a replacement...

Do you need special tools to disassemble the outdrive, like you need for a MerCruiser?
