1983, johnson 50hp.
Timing has been messed with, how do you return it to normal?
Is there such things as a "Timing Pointer" on the 50hp model?

Plan is to put it in the water and spin the Cam 1 clockwise/counter clockwise spin and try it out till I get it to go right.

I have removed the flywheel at one time to check the stators physical condition and wires, I made sure to put the stator right back in the exact same holes, but if that is possible to mess up, how can I double check that it's not?

I can run full throttle but getting there is a pain. Most of the time dies before I can, just have to pump the handle like crazy before I push full speed, then it takes right off.

my service manual is not much help in this matter. I have done the proceedures with no avail. I have search and searched the forums with nothing but OLD posts of similar issues, only to never having someone say what it really was that they did, or if they fixed it.

there is an armature stop tab that needs to freely butt up against the rubber high speed stop under the flywheel. these can have really stiff leads over the years, prohibiting it from advancing all the way (and back again when slowing down). check to make sure its smooth and freely moving the armature/stator assembly! if its not, the first step is to order a brand new brown plastic bearing and lube with a light oil, and the armature itself needs molly lube on the inner brass looking center section. again, needs to move smooth as butter!

Moves smooth as butter.

I should mention it dies when going from idle to WOT, it's like an instant shut off, right in the middle of the throttle range, You get less than a second to try and keep it going by pulling the throttle back to idle. And 2/3times it will die no matter what.

did you check the armature moving correctly as suggested in my earlier post?
