How to restore fibreglass finish?

Colour difference on white fibreglass hull where old vinyl adhesive registration numbers were removed and rest of hull. Lighter original colour under numbers. Have tried various auto cutting compounds and 3M fibreglass cutting compound but can't restore old colour. I'm assuming it's faded beyond repair, but if not how can I get it back?

It probably is faded beyond repair, but to get it looking good again use Marine Penetrol. If you search this site you will find many users who have had excellent results. My boat is a bluish gray and was quite oxidized. Using a rag I wiped this stuff on and the boat looks 100% better. Give it a try.

Tried Penetrol. It's definitely faded beyond repair. Thanks anyway.

Another product that works very well for restoring a fiberglass finish is the Vertglas system. It's worked for my 1988 Bayliner that was oxidized pretty badly.
