hey yall.....

ok i got a boat...fiberglass --it had a motor inside with and outdrive...
i am using this boat for floating purposes only...it will not have any power to it.
what would be the best way to seal the outdrive hole...?

i was thinking a good 3/4 in ply soaked in epoxy resin for the outside.
and bolted to the same from the inside... and then once bolted together glass the outside to the hull covering the wood from the elements.
so in the end i would have a wood "seal" on the inside - fiberglass from the hull in the middle and then another wood "Seal" on the outside of the hull...all bolted together and glued using pl adhesive...

or should i go all fiberglass and be done with it.... sealing the outdrive hole from the outside of the hull only?

would yall have any other suggestions...

If it's not powered you don't need to be concerned with the strength of the transom. I think I would just seal it from the outside.

ya think a chunk of poly resin soake plywood and some pl construcion adhesive bolted through hull and then fiberglased should do the trick right...

any adhesives and or resins i shoudnt use together..i read here on the boards about not mixing epoxy and poly resin....cant fnd it again to reference it...

thank for the ideas

I sealed one up one time that i had converted to a fishing boat. We just cut a sheet of plywood, covered the hole, used deck screw ever 6 inches all the way around, and then coated the whole thing in silicone.

or just use treated plywood and call it good. If it is not powered, and used in freshwater, treated plywood will last a good 5 years at least.

5200 would work as well.
