HI, I am going to place a vent fitting at the back of my aluminum gas tank. There are appropriate threads for the fitting. My question, would teflon tape work as a good thread sealer or would something else work better.
Thanks Roman

Is the tank venting out the boat?Anyway, teflon tape will work fine, just don't use any silicone on or around fuel tanks or anything that has fuel going thru it.

Make sure that when you run the vent hose, add a loop in it and secure it too!

Here's a great item for the vent hose.
Will help with preventing spills. I dont think you need a loop if you use this.

If you use the tape, use the correct type. White for water, yellow for gas and diesel. And remember to start the tape on the 2nd. thread so there will not be any chance of the tape getting into the system. :)

What would be the correct kind to use for a fuel fitting on the tank. This would be a gasoline tank.
Thanks again Roman

Depends on the fitting..if its a "compression" fitting, dont use any kind of teflon tape ( compression fittings use there own style of sealing )

If its just plain ol' pipe threading..then teflon tape is just fine .. look at your car..the most commonly used connection is basically a hose with a hose clamp..fittings are welded into the tanks. Its more of "how tight" the fitting is. dont overtighten..or undertighten.

but..it seems that your running a hose? from your tank to an outside hull through fitting ? then your fine with a vent hose just using clamps ( if im not mistaken your not actually running fuel though this hose vent )

YD

Use the thread dope that is made for fuel tanks. A marina could give you the small amount you need to do the job right.
