I have a 95 vip with a 5.7 inboard mercruiser . The exhaust exit ports are two hole with flaps right above the water on the back. It sounds nice, but just way to loud. Is there anyway to submerge these ports to silence the noise? Thanks for any advice.:)

options:

You can get 'turn down' pipes that basically make a hard turn down into the water. Water is the muffler in this case.

You can divert the exhaust down through the outdrive. Inside the boat, you'll need all the necessary hardware to run the exhaust down and out the exhaust exit and through a bellows and straight out the outdrive. Many cruisers and such have this as bone stock. (Moderate level of work and fair am't of hardware).

You can add mufflers to the existing outlets (EASIEST).

You can add waterlift mufflers if you have room inside (very rare on small boats, but my 26 footer has 'em).

Not that this really has anything to do with your thread, but I was actually looking for a thread on how to convert over to a captains call exhaust, from the standard outdrive exit. To bad we can't just swap!

depends on if the y pipe is still there and in working order. it will cost a couple dollars but diverters like captains call will give you the option of the sound or option of less sound.

turn down pipes look awefull but work
