I have a 1983 johnson 50 hp (J50BELCTA). Was wondering if my motor has this feature(Fast Start). Am thinking of using Joe Reeves WOT timing setting on this Motor. Thanks Guys, John

Thank You I have set the timing as Mr. Reeves said. model (J50BELCTA) . Started her up just fine on muffs ,out of gear. Was wondering what RPMs should I set the ilde on muffs, out of gear? Before I had the ilde set at 750 RPMs on muffs, out of gear. And when in the bay she wanted to and would sometimes die putting her in gear.Hope to put her in the Bay today and test her out . Was only getting around 4200 RPMs @ WOT want to make sure everything is just right before sizing a new prop. for her. Thanks Again ,John

Idle rpm and idle mixture need to be set with the boat in the water. Doing so on muffs results in no exhaust back pressure which affects those settings. Idle speed should also be set in the water and in gear. Setting it in neutral results in the engine stalling when put in gear.
