How to tell what in our Logs?

We purchased an 1998 Crestline 2080 Sport - it was very basic but have since then COMPLETELY REFURBISHED everything. Now it's a beautiful lounger type pontoon that is very comfortable. (bye bye fishing boat).

Though we've never encountered any problems with our logs, we are curious as to how to determine what's inside???

Let us know if you have any ideas or info.

Depends on the shape of the logs JR. Round logs will generally have nothing inside them other than baffles where the seams are welded. U shaped logs will almost always have foam in them since there are no baffles.

Hi Rick,
the logs are round but I understand that some logs from the 1990's could have both foam or air. Any way to verify??

I'd bet all the money in my pocket they're filled with nothing but good ol' O2. Even some of the barges with round toons (Sundancer and Playcraft come to mind, but I wouldn't swear to it) were filled with foam in the early nineties, but I don't think yours would have been, especially not by '98. If you want the definitive word contact Brunswick. They might be able to verify, if they're willing to dig back that far.

If you have a drain plug in the rear bottom of the log, simply remove it and push a small rod or stick into the log. If you hit nothing in the first few feet, it has nothing inside. I would be 99.9% sure you will have nothing but air in those. Another way is to tap on the logs and listen to the sound. Foam filled logs will give off a dull thud. Air filled ones will resonate like hitting a large tin can or barrel.

99.9% chance you TUBES(logs grow in the forest) are filled with plain old air.

As stated, unless they are U tubes or someone has gotten creative there aren't that many tubes filled with foam.

Trees grow in the forest. Toothpaste, Caulk and Preparation H comes in tubes. "Pontoons" are those round cylindrical things that a deck is built on that become a Pontoon Boat.:)

Good one Rick. :D Out of respect for 5150abf I have been refraining from calling thoses things logs. Now, I am further enlightened and will not be able to call them tubes either.

I certainly meant no disrespect to 5150. Seems that where you're located has alot to do with what folks call them. Around here, they are referred to as logs for the most part. Tubes, Logs, Pontoons...As long as it keeps floating is what counts..:)
