I am trying to hook up a remote switch for my tilt/trim on my engine. The factory switch has 2 wires leading to it. Pink(down), blue(up), that's it.

Well, I bought a momentary toggle switch for it...and there are 6 connections on the switch. There were no instructions with it, how do I wire it up?

I dont think I will be using all 6, but I could be wrong.

Thanks!
Shawn

momentary switch is just like a normal switch but has no'click'...you activated it an hold it for as long as you hold it.. release,, it stops.. ( unless a holding relay is in circut) but thats another story..

what you have is a double pole double throw.. i.e. two things ,,forward an reverse.. or a combo of variations..

or like,,in your case up & down..

i'd think that one wire is up & the other is down.. but you should have another wire ( hot ) to feed the center post of switch..

Shawn,

You say you have two wires in your trim circuit. How do these work? Is the system activated when you ground them or when you apply power to them?

I'm not sure if it is when they are powered or grounded. There is one wire that comes off of each solenoid that is the switch wire. Each one of these goes to the STOCK tilt/trim switch. The stock switch is already powered I'm sure from being hooked into the controls.

The momentary switch I have has 6 posts, and I only need 3(Hot, switch up, switch down).

Therefore, I have 3 empty posts. I tried wiring it the obvious way. The hot wire to the center, up to the top, down to the bottom, and I had nothing.

Let me know if you can help, this is the only thing keeping me from the lake!

Thanks
Shawn

Guys, I got it figured out. Just started messing with it a little with a tester and the wires, and figured it all out.

It is kind of weird the way it is wired, but it works! I had to use a jumper from a few posts to get it right, but it does the job!

Thanks!

Shawn

Re: How to wire a momentary on/off/momentary on Toggle switch?

Let me see if I can simulate how I wired it up using a keyboard...

This was a '6' terminal momentary on/off/momentary on switch. I only had 3 wires, 2 remotes (up and down), and a constant power.

OK, the '+' symbol will equal the 'COMMON', or constant power source. The three '+' were all connected/jumped together, with the constant power wire coming off of the engine and connecting with the #2 terminal. The jumper wires connected to #4 and #6 as well. This means you had constant going to 2,4,6.

the #5 terminal was left empty, '0'=nothing

the '^' is the UP remote/trigger wire
the 'v' is the DOWN remote/trigger wire.

IF I REMEMBER correctly, this is how it was. I am going off of memory (dont have the boat with me to look at it. But, I'll check it later and correct this if I messed up.

1 [^] [+] 4
2 [+] [0] 5
3 [v] [+] 6

Make sense?

Thanks for all the help guys!
Wish me luck at the lake!

Shawn
