How'd the heck did they attach it?

After removing the "mulch" back rests, bow seat cushions, side rails, etc in our 1978 Chrysler Sport Fury, what remained are screw heads sticking into the boat. On a surviving back rest there are no keyhole type slots, fasteners or anything. How on earth where these things attached to the boat? Any ideas on what to use to reinstall the side rails and other previously mounted pieces?

It is hard to understand the description you gave. On my SeaRay however, 1/4" SS screws were inserted through the plywood backing of the cushions and a "T-Nut" was used to hold it to the plywood. The foam and vinyl was then attached to the plywood to complete the cushion or side rail. The SS screws stuck out of the cushion or side rail enough to pass through the gunwales and a nut was used to secure it.

Ok, now that you mention it, it is a "Duh" question. Didn't even think about if you could reach the back to see if there was a nut. Thanks.

There are no DUH! questions around here.
Well, maybe afew....(snick) ;)

Been known to ask a few myself, but it's usually the answer that provokes the Duh!

Duh...shesh. I had the same thing on my bayliner and no nuts, balls either for that matter in the backing of the side rails. :D They snuck em between different layers of fabric. But they were so hard to find I just ripped em out of the backing and then had to unscrew from the hull. Did I mention that hull is bullet proof? And no the wood was in pretty good shape. LOL

I have a similar problem on my 17' Pacer fish n ski. I am thinking about reupholstering the side rail cushions in the bow. I can't figure out how to remove them (short of prying them off) much less reattach them. I think they must have been screwed on from the inside of the top superstructure before it was lowererd into and attached to the hull. If I pry these off and redo them how do I reattach them? I can't get to the back of the top to attach screws or nuts  .

jimd, You can simply screw through the panels into the sides. Then you can buy plastic covers for screw heads to dress them up. Alternatively, you can buy Stainless Steel finish washers, and leave them exposed. They won't look bad.
