Been trying to get the motor in shape. Got a missing problem. This is what I know about the engine:

1) Compression is 125-130 on each cylinder. They are clean & scratch free.
2) Bottom plug is wet. Top plug is dry. Plugs are new.
3) Has a new head gasket & ex. gasket. Both are showing no signs of leakage.
4) Lots of water running through the engine. T-stat is ok. Its not overheating.
5) Rebuilt the carb. New needle valve gaskets etc.
6) Not sure about the needle valve on the carb. This could be out of whack.
7) Fuel lines, vacum lines have been replaced.
8) Gas is about 90 days old but has stabilizer.
9) Motor starts up within 2-3 pulls.

My next step is to change the points and condenser, adjusting the timing and change the flywheel key as my bet is they have not been changed in a long time. Am I on the right track?

If yall can give me some ideas, or your opinions, it would be apprecated...Bruce

Hi Ducks
It sure sounds as if you have all your's in a row. Sorry I couldn't help myself. The begining setting on your low-speed needle is about 1 1/2 turns out from lightly seated. Then adjust from there. Usually to the lean. You may be running a tad lean now (causing the miss or sneeze). How ever do go through the ignit, system. You my find leaking coils or wires. Remove and clean all wire ends where they attach. quite often corrosion will hide under the screws. Let us know how you make out.

Hi WTDucks

Had exactly the same motor and problem.

On mine it showed up to be a leaky upper cranckshaft seal, causing lean upper cylinder. When I corrected the condition by lowspeed mixture screw, the lower cylinder got too rich mixture. These seals can be changed from under the flywheel, without taking motor apart. Still available at most dealers. After that, changing points and condensers made it run like almost never before. Mine did spit out some fuel under flywheel, look for that.
