i have a 1963 40 hp rude model 40353d and a 1965 33 hp 33552 i want to take the carb off the 33 since it has adjustable high and low speeds and an electric choke that i want to put on the 40 hp motor.

1. is the hp rating on the carbs or the head?

2. if i do change them will it make my 40 hp a 33 hp???

any help at all is great

The 33 and 40 are different displacement, so that's where the extra power comes from. A larger venturi carb may be part of the package, too. Certainly won't hurt to try the 33 carb - may have to richen up on the needles a bit. Check the venturi diameters to see if they are close...

You can compare the sizes of the two carb venturis by measuring with an inside caliper.
