I have a 1977 nautiglass half cab with a white anker (chysler)55 hp on the transum, which is abit small to take across a bar. I want to repower the boat with a New 90hp yamaha. The only drama is that the hull is rated at 85 max hp. Is it ok to go +5hp and what problems might i have. The hull is in very good condition and has been shedded all its life. The reason i want to go 90 hp is because it is the best vaule for money compred to the 70, 75cv, 85cv, and 90 hp yamaha outboards. It is the only one that comes standard with a stainless steel prop, oil injection a full gauges.
Can any one tell me if there is any way to strengthen the transome if it needs to be. eg, pod or alloy plateing.
thank heaps to any one that can help me
regards Moorbee.

Re: HP. rating for 15ft nautiglass hull

Moorbee - An 85 is an overkill for a 15'er in my book even if it is rated for it even with an overstrength transom. I would think that a 90 would be out and out dangerous from a handling point of view.

Here in the States you would have a real problem with your insurance if you should ever have an accident. My guess is that coverage would be denied.
