Had the boat out all day and didn't run bad. Noticed some missing as it warmed up. Fished all day with no problem. When I got back to the dock, I put the motor in nuertral and reved it, to find out it would stall right away. If I put it into gear it ran fine under load of dock lines. As soon as I tried to rev in neural it would die at about 1000 rpms. Realy has me stumped and doesn't make sense.

Please help

You'll find this hard to believe, but that's just how it's supposed to run...sort of. HPDI 6cyl runs on 4 cyls. in neutral...and when(if) the RPM's get to 850 it drops TWO MORE cyls....now running on two, see. I've seen brand new HPDI's that do this...just clean the plugs and o2 sensor if you don't KNOW it's clean(using ringfree, having reg. maint., etc) and it may stop doing it, may not...why rev in neutral? If you stay under 850 rpm it'll have four cyls firing, thus not stalling on just two....

yep sounds like you may have some plugs fouling, in nuetral it drops two cylinders,at speeds above 1800 in nuetral it drops 2 more.if all is well I have seen folks get 3500 RPM on two cylinders but I really dont know why.
I mean why rev it in nuetral ?

Yamamarinetech40, I just learned yet another fact about my 200hpdi that I didn't know (runs on 4/2 cylinders). I've only owned this motor for a month and would like to learn more about it......I have the CD version of the model specific service manual but here's my question:

Is there any publication that I can buy or access on line that is more likely to be less technical, and more informative in a general sense? I hope you can tell what I mean......

Thanks!
