I'm one of those people even if I don't work on it I want to know how it works. Ill try to keep it short. I know on a regular 2 cycle engine the oil and fuel is mixed and run through the engine ending up in the cylinder etc, etc. Sadly enough I have ask a couple of parts guys at the counter and they could not tell me how a HPDI works. My question. I know their is direct injection of fuel in the cylinder. I know oil still has to flow through the block for lubrication. Is their still some fuel mixed with the oil for it to atomize and if so what % of the fuel is being used in the oil vs direct injection? And are they using the existing original fuel rail to deliver the oil.

Re: HPDI Fuel and Oil

on the HPDI engines lubricating oil is delivered from a pump mounted on the block driven by the crankshaft to 6 oil nipples located in the reed block area and the mist is then taken with the incoming air to lubricate the engine internals.
at higher speeds there is a small electric pump that feeds oil to the VST at about 1500 to 1 to aid in lubricating the high pressure fuel pump and injectors.
